The Journey
M. Evelyn Day, known by her nick name Eve, born in the sign of Aquarius in Stuttgart, Germany on a bitter cold Tuesday morning. Noone would have guessed that this little girl will be creating art as soon as she was able to grasp the crayons in her little fists that would send her on a creative journey through her life. With no former art schooling except for the traditional art classes in High school, she has been creating art ever since, as her mother can remember.
Her fascination with color showed when she started reaching into her mother's make-up case as soon as she could walk, in an attempt to show her very creative side on walls, dolls and on the pages of her mothers collectible cook books. Coming from a family background with hobby musicians (Grandfather and Mother) and photographer (Father) including arts & crafts (Grandmother and Mother), it seemed inevitable for her to create several talents and interests in painting, music, photography as well as other crafts.
Her thirst for more knowledge in art grew through the years and her curiosity for learning new techniques in many various mediums; started a collection of art books that she has been carrying around with her for reference all these years, and the collection is still growing.
In 1983 she came to the US as a newly wed and mother, where she was soon was sharing her free time with her equally creative neighbor Miss B. Becker, creating salt dough figures while learning the English language and awaiting the birth of their second daughter. Shortly thereafter the family was sent back to Germany by the US Army and was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany.
In 1985 she took a certification class in Ceramics at Conn Barracks, where she learned about Chemical-Safety procedures, History, Molding, Slip-Casting, Green ware preparation, Firing and Glazing procedures. She was certified in woodwork and tool shop power tool safety training, equipment operations of various wood working tools such as Circular saw, Band saw, Shaper, Drill Press, Grinder, Milling Machine, Planer and Router in 1986, and in 1987 she was mentored by her mother in silk painting and created nearly 100 unique freehand designed silk scarves of which only 3 remain in her possession today, the rest were sold through the word of mouth advertising of her mother to relatives and friends.
Upon her return to the United States at the end of 1987, she started to use her wood working education and silk painting experience in combination to create fantastic combinations of the two, by using rare woods such as cherry, walnut and monkey wood, to carefully draw freehand designs on pieces of furniture from breakfast trays and small phone tables to jewelry boxes.
Locally known in Parteeville, WI. from 1990 to 1991 for living on the old historical farm - House Of Hereford's - and starting to create wind chimes made out of plexi glass on which she engraved designs of animals, nature scenes, flowers and the occasional portrait of a favorite pet upon request of the locals. She created and sold well over 80 pieces to the local True value Hardware store and various Arts & Crafts Consignment Stores in the surrounding Communities of Portage, Baraboo and Wisconsin Dells to support her income, while her husband served in the Desert Storm War.
She then discovered watercolors and received mentoring from a very creative painter, James Holloway in spring of 1991 through 1992, during which time she created more then 47 watercolor paintings of which only 8 remain in her possession today, of which she will not separate from.
In 1993 the Century 21 Real Estate Agent Kim Leal approached her, and asked her to be the photographer for their new relocation magazine. She completed the assignment with over 48 incredible black & white shots that showed Madison, Wisconsin as the most interesting place to live in, for relocating families. It was a great success for her.
Soon thereafter in the summer of 1994, Kim L. and Eve decided to open a small Art Boutique - La Funk - in the town of Monona, but due to the then hard times of small business development in that area they soon realized that it was not the right time for this kind of a business to take much shape. The only frequent customers were the local high school students, which were bound to small pocket money that could hardly afford the higher prices of art. They closed the Boutique in 1995, and Eve decided to get a mobile sellers permit for her small art venture of Eve's Originals.
She has since then showed her art and talent exclusively to interested parties that have received the word of mouth advertising by friends and family. For the majority of the time now she has remained mainly unknown in the art world until the Internet made it possible for creation of websites, in which she has received many praises for her art from visitors to her previous site "Ladyimages Galleries".
From 1995 until the late fall of 2001 she also worked as a Mehndi Artist at School Festivals and the Willie Street Fair and was available at Steve's Tattoos for this temporary skin decoration for a short duration. She was interviewed by the Daily Cardinal (local student paper) for the Art of Henna in April of 1999 and was then invited to the Harley Davidson Birthday Celebration of the owner of the Milwaukee Manufacturing plant. She also attended several Wedding ceremonies in order to prepare the brides with their Henna Designs. Unfortunately a severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome from this art form took her back to trying other mediums to express her creativity such as Polymer Clay & Cloth Doll making, Chain maille Jewelry, Fantasy ink & pencil drawings, semi-precious gemstone Jewelry and handmade Paper Art.
In 2003 she has made her art available at her Cafepress Store Online where many of her designs are available in print on various merchandise from T-Shirts to Underwear, Mugs & Mouse Pads, Pillows, Calendars & Totes and more. Finally 2007 she opened up her Etsy Shop Online that allows the buyers to purchase her art directly from her studio and she does so with much success since all her art in this particular shop are handmade by her and One-Of-A-Kind. Many of her buyers are repeat customers and some will opt for a custom order, whether it greeting cards, chain maille or any of the other fascinating items that she creates in her studio. Testimonials and feedback of her superb customer service and her art creations show that her perseverance to make it in the art world is paying off and keeping her quite busy these days.
